Port Moody Real Estate: Belcarra

Nestled between the water of the Indian arm and the forests of the Belcarra Provincial Park, the Village of Belcarra is one of Port Moody’s best-kept secrets. This real estate area offers newer, quality built, family oriented houses and properties, with schools and recreation nearby.

Incorporated in 1979, Belcarra is a small rural community with a population of approximately 700. Mostly single-family dwellings, the residences and houses here are on the higher end of the real estate housing market. The proximity of the Belcarra and Indian Arm Provincial Parks, and of the Indian Arm inlet, provide an idyllic West Coast setting, and ensure against rapid expansion and sprawl. In fact, most of the residences of Belcarra line the Village’s two main thoroughfares: Bedwell Bay Road and Belcarra Bay Road. Just outside the Village there is a world of natural beauty to enjoy – Belcarra provides superlative hiking, biking, and water sports. Enjoyment and preservation of the natural setting is a foremost objective of the residents and council of the Village of Belcarra.

While individual homeowners are expected to provide wells and septic tanks in accordance with the requirements of local health authorities, the Village takes care of road maintenance, and provides a garbage compactor and recycling depot. The Village is serviced for electricity, telephone, hydro, and cable services like its more-populated counterparts, and is policed by the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment, and protected from fire by the local volunteer fire department. The nearest hospital – Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody – has 24 hour emergency service.

Belcarra provides its residents with a Community Hall for public gatherings, and residents can count on the volunteer-run Community & Recreation Association of Belcarra (CRAB) for the operation of tennis courts, and the organization of the Belcarra Days annual fair, regular dances, and the Belcarra Summer Program day camp for kids. Part of School District #43, Belcarra is within a 15 minute drive of an elementary, middle, and secondary school. Despite its rural setting, residents can access more metropolitan services with ease. There is a local shopping centre at the intersection of Heritage Mountain Boulevard and Ioco Road, and Coquitlam Centre – featuring over 910,000 square feet of retail on two levels – is a mere 15 minute drive away.

For an even more urban experience, residents can travel the 28 kilometres to downtown Vancouver and sample all that the city has to offer.
